Why we do our advocacy
Yes, um, the reason I'm calling is to say that I have a daughter who is gay. And she has a partner. I think ah, that before I knew she was gay, I never felt that I discriminated against gay people, but I just didn't really think about it a lot. And I don't know how I really felt. But my knowing that she's gay has led me to gain more understanding about gay people, and I want to apologize for any negative feelings that I may have had, because my understanding is better now.I am African American.
I feel that in the African American churches, that they don't understand about gay people and they have negative feelings about gay people.
She goes on to urge our community to reach out to the African American churches to educate them about homosexuality, and marriage equality.
She ends with, "it's not about hate; it's about understanding and education."
Thank you, ma'am, whoever you are. Here's wishing you and your daughter and the rest of your family well.
