Ireland's Blasphemy Law Goes Into Effect

Slashdot reports on a very bad idea that has just become law in Ireland. The freedom of speech we treasure in America is not the norm even among Western democracies. When someone starts telling you why it's crucial that we start carving away at the First Amendment in response to someone else's offensive speech, ask yourself how confident you are that you would be the one making the decisions on what to ban and what to allow. Then thank your higher power, as they say in AA, for America's birthright of freedom, and realize that you can't advance that freedom selectively supporting its diminution.
