Mayor's office apologizes for honoring PFOX's Regina Griggs

This just in from Fenty spokesperson Mafara Hobson:

To: 'equal@glaa.org'
Cc: Dyer, Christopher (EOM)
Subject: Re: Mayor Fenty honored notorious "ex-gay" group

A staff level error was made when the request for the certificate in question was fulfilled. We apologize for the error as it runs contrary to the Mayor's vision of a more open and inclusive city.

The Mayor is proud of his ardent support of the LGBT community as illustrated in his championing of the Marriage Equality legislation which he signed into law on December 18, 2009.

Update: Yusef Najafi at Metro Weekly reports here. Tim Craig at WaPo reports here. Rod 2.0 blogs about it here. DC Agenda reports here.

Update 2: Amanda Hess of City Paper's "The Sexist" blog reports, and adds this comment: "PFOX isn’t even located in D.C.—it’s run out of Grigg’s home of Reedville, Va."
