The Value of NOM Support
Some publications (Washington City Paper, The American Prospect) have mentioned that support from the National Organization for Marriage doesn't help candidates in Washington DC. Actually the political class should note that Delano Hunter's support dropped after NOM started 'helping'. Compare the candidate rankings in the Ward 5 Straw Poll with the final vote:
| Candidate | Straw Poll | % | Final Vote | % |
| Kenyan McDuffie | 68 | 7.21% | 2486 | 14.81% |
| Delano Hunter | 230 | 24.39% | 3240 | 19.30% |
| Harry Tommy Thomas Jr. | 613 | 65.01% | 10366 | 61.74% |
| Tracey D. Hunter | 32 | 3.39% | 654 | 3.90% |
As the saying goes, with friends like that who needs enemies. Of course King & Associates made out quire well when you check the NOM campaign filings. Do you suppose Bob King was sharing his political savvy with the Hunter campaign?
