This Week in Anti-Gay Crime
It has been a typical week in anti-gay violence around the nation including two murders and a hospitalization.
- A 28 year old Pennsylvania man has been arrested for beating a 70 year old gay man to death with a sock filled with rocks. He said the Bible told to do so since it calls for gay people to be stoned. No doubt though that he loved his victim as the Bible also commands. He was willing to love him to death.
- Six teenagers beat a 29 year old gay man so severely he required ten hours of surgery and three metal plates in his head. No arrests have been made. Fundraisers are being held to benefit the victim who is without health insurance.
- An 18 year old man has been beaten to death by a gang of teenagers who apparently mistook him for gay. The group had invaded a birthday party being thrown by two gay men where they threatened people, yelled anti-gay slurs, and defaced the walls with bigoted grafitti. The victim left the party to avoid trouble but the group followed him out and then chased and killed him. There have been five arrests so far.
You may read about the final item in the main stream media. While anti-gay violence is run of the mill mistaken attacks on straight people are often considered newsworthy because of the "man bites dog" aspect of the crime. Plus the media likes to note when there are innocent victims of crime (as opposed to crimes against gay people). The Biblical quirkiness in the first crime could also increase the likelihood of it being reported.
